Acne

Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous apparatus characterized by formation of various types of skin lesions including comedones, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts depending on severity of inflammatory process. Acne not only scars the skin but can also scar a patient’s self-confidence.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by well demarcated erythematous, raised patches (plaques) with silvery white scales.

It is considered to be a disorder of skin hyperproliferation characterized by decrease in epidermal turnover time leading to immature keratinocytes reaching the surface and being shed as scales.

Vitiligo

It is a type of skin disease characterized by well defined hypopigmented / depigmented macules due to absence or decrease in melanocytes

It can occur at any age, the most common age being between 10 – 30 years.

Urticaria

• Urticaria/ Hives is an allergic condition characterized by recurrent and transient episodes of itchy, red, raised patches on skin.
• It is caused by release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators from the mast cells and basophils.
• Acute urticaria usually lasts upto less than 6 weeks and is more common in children and young adults as compared to its chronic counterpart (>6 weeks) which is more common in adults.

Eczema

Eczema refers to group of conditions that cause the skin to become inflamed and irritated. The word ‘Eczema’ is derived from a greek word ‘Ekzem’ meaning to boil out.

Fungal Infections

A fungal infection also called as mycosis is a skin disease caused by fungus. In recent times, the incidence of fungal infections has increased due to genetic mutations and resistance to anti fungal medications.

Nail Infection

• Nails are horns – like envelops covering the tips of fingers and toes and are responsible for tactile perception.
• Various changes in terms of structure, surface and colour of nails can be an important diagnostic clue to cutaneous and systemic pathologies.
• Onychomycosis fungal infections of nails caused by dermatophytes, moulds or yeast.
• Periungual warts: commonly presented as hyperkeratotic lesions over the nail folds.

Melasma

Melasma is a common acquired hyperpigmentary disorder characterized by brownish or grayish pigmentation commonly seen on face. Hyperpigmentation is due to both increased number of melanocytes and increased melanin production.It generally affects the females of reproductive age group

Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis is a chronically relapsing skin disorder with genetic predisposition characterized by varying degree of pruritus and inflammation of skin.

It usually manifests in infancy (60%) or childhood (80%).
